Grizzly House in Banff - A Culinary Adventure in the Rockies

The Grizzly House offers a dining experience like none other. I first dined here about 30 years ago. It hasn’t changed since my first visit. The food was amazing and we throughly enjoyed the experience. I’m not sure if I will ever go back to Banff, but if I do I’ll definitely dine here again. Be sure to make your reservation well in advance because it is very popular. I made our reservation three months in advance… I highly recommend you try the Grizzly House!

This was our most anticipated (and most expensive) meal during our trip to Banff, and it didn’t disappoint! We came for their four-course dinner, which includes a starter (soup or salad), cheese fondue, a main course with different meats, and a chocolate fondue for dessert. We were off to a good start with the soup and salad, both were really good. Next was our first time trying cheese fondue and it was such a fun experience. The bread portion was super generous and the cheese was rich and tasty For the mains, we got the Original Fondue Dinner that contained beef and chicken and the Exotic Fondue Dinner, which came with some very unique meats. It was a cool chance to try things we’ve never had before. Our favourite of the night was actually the alligator, which tasted like a mix between chicken and fish. There’s also a handful of sauces to choose from that will cater to lots of different palates. We finished off with the chocolate fondue, and of course you can’t go wrong with chocolate and fruit. Overall, we had a great time here. It’s definitely pricey, but worth it if you want to try something different while in Banff. The restaurant was pretty dark (we had to use our flashlight to read the menu), but our server was super friendly and made the whole experience great. Our dinner lasted almost two hours but was enjoyable all the way through. I highly recommend booking a reservation as we heard from the works they were booked out for the entire night.

A very unique dining experience from top to bottom, the steakhouse lighting and decor immediately sets the atmosphere. Service is at a 10/10 level, Dave made the night with excellent service and witty banter. The food from the bison tartar to the cheese fondue to the delicious meaty hot plate was phenomenal as expected! Highly recommend

I loved it! The food was amazing!!! But other than that the vibe is really great, Billy is very welcoming (and he has a great moustache .) The placemat is a drawing of the Grizzly House with multiple quotes. When you walk past the kitchen you hear EDM (they’re obviously having a great time in there) and the back of the women’s washroom door reads ‘mens’, which gave me a giggle - I can imagine it could be quite confusing when you had one to many. I would 100% recommend giving The Grizzly House a try.

Absolutely delicious — will 100% be back Went to the Grizzly House in Banff with my family for the first time (though it wasn’t my dad’s first), and it completely lived up to the hype. We ordered the four-course dinner and each chose something different, which meant we got to try a bit of everything — such a great way to experience the menu. I had the Hunter’s Dinner with buffalo, wild boar, and venison, and it was absolutely incredible. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender and full of flavor. The rest of my family ordered the Alberta steak with prawns and the Alberta steak with scallops, and everything across the table was amazing. Dinner started with a choice of soup or salad — we chose the salad, and the dressing was fantastic, with a subtle tarragon flavor that I loved. The cheese fondue was honestly my favorite part of the meal and alone would be worth coming back for. Dessert was chocolate fondue with fruit and wafer cookies, which was the perfect ending. Service was friendly, fast, and spot-on — no complaints at all. I also loved seeing Dad’s Root Beer on the menu (a big win for root beer lovers). The ambiance inside is cozy and charming, and the outdoor seating really lets you soak in the mountain atmosphere. Even without reservations, they were able to seat us, which was a great bonus. Amazing food, great service, and a memorable experience — I’ll definitely be back and would recommend this place to anyone visiting Banff.

Grizzly House in Banff is an absolute classic. From the cozy, dimly lit dining room to the quirky vintage phones and hints of its swinger-era history, it’s a dining experience steeped in charm and local lore. Every visit feels special, whether you’re celebrating, coming after a hike, or just treating yourself. On our early Valentine’s lunch, our server Dave made the meal unforgettable. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the experience, he checked in often, expertly rotated our cheese fondue, and made us feel like we had a personal chef at our table. His energy and warmth added a personal touch that made the whole afternoon feel magical. The food is consistently phenomenal. The cheese fondue melts your heart, chocolate fondue ends the meal perfectly, and the fondue dinners—beef & lobster or game like bison, elk, and venison—are always fresh and flavorful. My favorite? Their chicken tortellini soup (I pray for it every visit!). My partner loves trying their exotic meats—like alligator, rattlesnake, and kangaroo—and says they’re phenomenal. Kudos to the kitchen and the entire team for delivering a flawless, memorable experience. Grizzly House is a Banff institution, and with servers like Dave, it’s truly unforgettable. He is an absolute star! ⭐

We wanted to do this 3 years back while dating but didnt get a chance due to the queue, this time we came as a married couple with reservation in advance hehe. 100% great service by David who knew what we needed at the right time. Went for 4 course - upgraded at just $2 for french onion soup (superb!), cheese fondue (authentic wine taste), Alberta fondue (beef, bison, elk, venison) on hot stone, belgian choc fondue. Everything’s so yummy! Despite the crowd, waiting time between courses was well paced out, noise level was not crazy at all. Definitely recommend and yes, call to reserve!

Dinner at the Grizzly House in Banff with its orginal wooden design from the late 1960s. My husband got the Alberta Fondue with Alberta beef, venison, elk, and bison. I kept it tame with Alberta beef and chicken fondue. The meat was brought to our table with a hot stone for us to cook and served with several dipping sauces. Great ambience and service. Recommend a reservation.
